Trauma therapy for adults

Complex and developmental trauma. Telehealth across Ohio and Colorado.

When it wasn't one event

Some trauma has a date attached. A lot of it doesn't.

If what happened to you was ongoing, started early, or came from the people who were supposed to be safe, you may have spent years wondering whether it counts. It shaped how you read a room, how you brace, what you expect from people who get close. It's still showing up in your body and your closest relationships long after it should be over, and understanding where it came from hasn't made it stop.

That's the work here. Not just naming the pattern, which you may have done years ago, but changing how you live inside it.

Why we start with the relationship

Trauma work asks you to go near things you've spent a long time managing. That's not safe to do with someone you don't trust yet, and no technique substitutes for that trust.

So we build it first. That isn't a preliminary before the real work begins. It's the thing that makes the rest possible, and if it takes a while, that's information rather than a delay.

Working with the body

Trauma is held in the body as much as in the story you tell about it. That's why you can understand your history thoroughly and still find your chest tightening when someone raises their voice.

Working with breath, movement, and attention to sensation reaches what talking alone doesn't. It can also feel more exposed than talking, which is why it goes at your pace and why you can stop at any point. I won't ask you to relive anything to prove it happened.

When the harm was structural

Some of what people carry didn't come from one relationship. It came from being on the receiving end of how a system treats people like you. Medical settings. Family systems that ran on obedience. Workplaces. The ambient hostility of living somewhere that's legislating about you.

We look at that honestly rather than treating your response to it as the disorder.
